‘Oreshki’-sweet nuts filled with condensed milk

This is one of my favorite childhood recipes! Today with my friend Marcela, we decided to make them for Valentine’s day. It’s a very easy recipe and delicious! But, you need a special mold to make them (this is called a ‘oreshnitsa’ and you can buy one here). Add a little walnut to the condensed milk to give it a better and nuttier flavor. This is a great idea for parties since you can make this dish the day before a holiday and there is enough to go around for everyone.

Instructions

  1. For the nuts, beat the eggs with sugar. then add softened butter (or margarine), mayonnaise, starch and baking soda. Then knead the dough while gradually adding the flour. The dough should be a smooth consistency. This dough will form the crust of the nuts.
  2. The nuts are baked in a special form called an 'oreshnitsa'. Before you begin baking, heat the 'oreshnitsa' and brush with oil. Fill the form about 2/3 full and bake until golden brown. You will then have nut halves which will be filled with the condensed milk in the next step.
  3. For the filling: Boil the condensed milk in a closed can on low heat in a saucepan with water (so the can will be completely under water) and boil for 2- 3 hours adding water if necessary. The longer you cook condensed milk, the darker it will be.
  4. To complete, fill half of nuts with cooked condensed milk and then place them together.
