Radish
Radishes are edible root vegetables, a member of the mustard family that can grow nearly all year. They are very tasty and healthy with a slight peppery flavor and a crisp, crunchy texture. There are many varieties of radishes varying in shape, size and colors. Some of them are reddish pink and round vegetables while others are white and oblong. Large white mooli or diakon radishes are popular in Asian cuisine, are shaped like carrots and have a mild flavor. You can also find black radishes which are popular in eastern Europe and have a stronger flavor. The most popular varieties are the small, cherry-sized with red skin and white flesh.
They’re extremely easy to grow from seeds and you can harvest all year round from May to October. Most important is to regularly water and plant in full sun. You can start planting the seeds in April, radish sprouts appear within 2-3 days and planted early spring can be ready in 40-50 days and in summer 22-30 days. At first I cover the radishes with plastic since spring can still be cold at night. Plant the seeds 0.5-1 cm a depth. Delicate and delicious radishes can only be obtained only when the soil moisture is sufficient. The bigger the radish, the less crisp its texture, so avoid larger ones.
