What’s in season. May.
Weather in May in the northern states is changing quickly. Gardens in normally cool climates suddenly appear out of nowhere and demand attention. But this year we still had snow on May 2! And it was the 6th largest one day snowfall in our history! We
finally have sun and some nice weather to get outdoors and plant our seeds! Yeah! I had already planted seeds before the snowstorm and now that the snow has melted I continue to plant seeds and seedlings in my garden.
Usually in May asparagus, radishes, spinach, sorrel, chives, spring lettuce, rhubarb is harvested. In the other states, especially in the south of course, there is a wider selection of vegetables and fruits.
In May you can plant the seeds or seedlings which didn’t have time to plant in April, such as artichoke, celery, cabbage, broccoli, peas, carrots, parsley, leeks, green beans, asparagus, sweet corn, onions and towards the end of May- eggplants, cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, squash, watermelons, melons, and peppers. These are heat-loving and like a lot of sun.
