What’s in season. April.
I don’t know about where you live, but here in Minnesota, winter is not over yet. It’s still cold and even snowing a little today. Last year at this time was nice and warm and we already had planted some seeds in the ground. This year anyone can only guess when spring will come. But all is not lost, in my garden I already have chives sprouting and young leaves of garden sorrel (this is very popular in Ukraine and my stepfather is crazy for this).
Here’s what in season in April across most of America:
Vegtables: asparagus, avocados, artichokes, arugula, beets, beans, bok choi, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chives, collard greens, cucumber, dandelion greens, garlic, green onion, horseradish, kale, leeks, lettuce and salad mixes, mustard greens, onions, parsnips, peas (sugar and snap), radishes, rhubarb, shallots, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes, turnips.
Herbs: basil, bay, cilantro, dill, lavender, mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, tarragon, thyme.
I’m so jealous! Well, some day spring will come to us too, it’s almost around the corner 🙂
Check out some recipes I’ve made from some of these ‘in season’ vegetables:
