How to choose and store strawberries
When you are buying strawberries remember a few rules. The berries must be firm, shiny, and preferably with the green caps still attached. Smaller strawberries tend to have more flavor than larger ones. Avoid limp, wilted, moldy or bruised berries as well as those that have white or green parts. They will not ripen after picking. When possible, you should buy organic strawberries.
Store bought berries should not be stored, it is better to eat them right away. For overnight storage, they should be refrigerated, keep them in the refrigerator in one layer on a paper towel in an airtight container. Ripe strawberries don’t keep well, but they can be refrigerated for 1-2 days. Take them out of the fridge an hour before eating,
so that they’re room temperature.
Don’t wash strawberries or remove their caps until you’re ready to eat (or freeze) them.
If you have a lot of strawberries and you can’t eat any more, then cook them into a jam so in the winter you can treat yourself with a sweet, fragrant and delicious dessert!
